It Started With a Problem
In February 2021, I was staring at my graded card collection with nowhere good to put it. Display cases felt generic. Stands were flimsy. Nothing on the market felt worthy of the cards inside them. So I did what any collector would do — I started designing my own solution.
What began as a CAD sketch turned into a 3D-printed prototype a few months later. Then another. Then another. The design went through revision after revision as I figured out what worked, what didn't, and what the product actually needed to be. Compatibility, build quality, modularity — every detail got interrogated.
Dallas, 2022
By November 2022, I had a working version of the Pod Loader and a decision to make: test it in the real world or keep tinkering. I chose the real world.
I packed up my pods in a repurposed cat backpack — yes, a cat backpack — and took them to the Dallas Card Show. The feedback was great and validating.
Back to the Drawing Board
After Dallas, Pod Loader went on the back burner for a couple of years while life moved forward. But the idea never fully went away.
In early 2025, I came back to it with fresh eyes — revamped the design, built the brand identity from scratch, and committed to seeing it through. The version you're looking at today is the result of four years of iteration and a lot of lessons learned.
The Collector Behind the Product
I grew up collecting Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Similar to a lot of people, sold them at a garage sale years later — a decision I still think about. When COVID hit and Pokémon cards had their resurgence, I got back into collecting and this time I wasn't letting the collection go.
I now own a complete set of XY Evolutions, drawn to it for the same reason a lot of collectors are: the original card art hits differently. I also collect Detroit Lions cards, because the Lions are finally good and I've been waiting a lifetime for that.
My game room — the space where Pod Loader was born — is built around Pokémon and Detroit Lions. It's part nerd collection, part workshop, and the reason this product exists.
